Are we that cruel ? : the Bhagalpur incident

August 28th, 2007 · 11 Comments · Uncategorized

Shocking news from Bihar’s Bhagalpur district.

A man was beaten up by the public in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district after he reportedly snatched a woman’s chain.

His hands were bound behind his back and he was thrashed by the public and the police. The man was then dragged by a motorcycle, with a policeman at the wheel.

Despite the chain being recovered, the man was beaten up by the public. Instead of preventing the public from assaulting the victim, the police also joined in.”

A local journalist got everything on his camera and video is on air through all the major television channels Watch it here

How can you be that cruel to someone ?. Mob has no brains… thats the old theory, but does that police man have the minimum qualification of being able to think on his own ?.

Shame on those who speak “too much” for the convicted actors… if you keep your eyes closed towards these kind of incidents. Shame on those who were asking for suspension of a policeman for hugging an actor….. we have had enough …

Another big question Kiran Bedi pointed out during debates on Times now and IBN live, the media and the public always stops at the “what” and run behind another ‘what” and never care for the “why” …

I believe that such one why asked, figured out, analyzed and answered will prevent another hundred “whats” of that nature.

this news, is something that brought a lot of questions, that no one has answer for ….

hey this was one of the most barbaric incident in present india. But if we look at the past of india bhagalpur had given another example of the same type but on a higher scale. The “blinding incident ”

BTW, just for records, i was born in bhagalpur district and my parents are still there!!

I dont think this is a new incident. My state Kerala, the so called most god’s own country is worser than bihar in this matter. I think it is the same in many other states too. Let’s hope the govt will take proper action against this.

I am also from Kerala, I believe.. such incidents are rare here… its not the matter of that particular village….. most of the villages around that area and other places like that are like this….

Oh I saw this one on the news here in the Philippines… I feel sad for that person. I hope this kind of “torture” won’t happen again in the future.. It’s kinda unjust and disrespectful…

We are cruel because we are frustrated from life and don’t know what to take our anger out on. After 60 years of Independence, we aren’t a happy nation. We are a striking, disappointed and frustrated lot and that’s saddening.

I will agree with you, we are not a happy nation yet, running behind GDP and not GNH , the gross national happiness.

However, its not right to think that we should have some way of reacting.. like this… coz we are frustrated…

you can catch a thief . but you are not supposed to go beyond the limits of Human consideration..

you can have rallies and protests.. but you are not supposed to express through street fights and stopping an ambulance to a 4 years old child to death …

yes, that’s what I wrote in Ish’s blog Bhagalpur is going to be a remembered for a long time in Indian history, all for long reasons…

But it wud be incorrect to say only people in bhagalpur are cruel, we Indians are known to kill on roads in rage after accidents..in every city…Lon time back when I was in college studying mass communication, I wrote an article called are we losing our sensitivity…the incident that triggered it was a body was lying in Mumbai on road for 8 hrs!! No one bothered to call police or to take it to hospital…Can you imagine anything worse?
