Orkut, keep your photos private

This is something I was waiting for ! You can have secrets now !

Have you ever wondered how much privacy you have on orkut, 0% privacy…. and thats too bad isn’t it ?. I used to advice ( I love it ) my friends not to put photos on orkut. Now, orkut has introduced something new, allowing you to control the privacy level of your album, videos, and testimonials. You can set it to either “everyone” or “friends” ,

How to Enable ?

Login to orkut and click on “settings”, and go to “privacy” tab and scroll down a bit. and there you are. Select the option that you need and save it ! done !!

Is it 100% private ? I dont think so I would love to see more privacy options for albums. We will need to wait a little more :)
Another change, … have you noticed the recent profile visitors on your homepage ? you can see 10 recent visitors. Read more here

Edit : Cracks are already in, found something here.. ( try it at your own risk )

Hmm, it’s back to square one. What if your friends are the one who are against your privacy. I had one like that which ultimately lead me to removing the particular picture from my profile.

Yes, thats why I said its not 100% secured yet !! I would say its 40% now. What you think ?

  4. Ish

40% secure. Yea I think that can be safely said. I like the new blog theme by the way. Nice colour change effects.

If you want privacy, dont put it on web. That’s what privacy section in wordpress says :)

Stay away from web for privacy ? thats not a proper solution is it ?

  9. Poonam

Nah, it was not supposed to be a solution, only a prevention :)

That was another attempt by orkut to save the profile of its users from leeching eyes. BTW how is the throat.

The theme looks good. simple and load less cluttred. Hey your “Ref” section in the “sidebar” is missing the its contents :)

  13. dinsan

  15. dinsan

i think this 0% privacy has made orkut popular bt still it is a bad thing
n this privacy setting can give a 70% privacy if u have no strangers in ur friendz list bt there will be atleast 1 stranger in almost everyone’s circle :P ha! is orkut the hot topic everywhere ,even in ur blog! :)

Facebook is (I feel!) a lot more secure when it comes to preserving your privacy… You can even control how much your friends can see and enabled “Limited Profile” views for your friends…

Overall, I think the “orkut-fad” in India is a thing of the past.. Now people are turning to different social networks.. including “desi” ones..

But like many others, I am still “on” orkut ‘coz half the civilized world that I would like to “randomly” keep in touch with are on orkut… Fortunately, the other half is on FB which I find more convenient (even if slightly slower!) to use..
