Are you still boycotting blogger ?
“The Blogger issue has been really bothering me ever since I discovered that non-Bloggers users are being forced to leave a “Nickname” or comment Anonymously, without giving you the option of leaving behind the URL of your blog.” Ruhi

Now, all those who boycotted blogger ( including you Ruhi ) can come back and post comments on blogger and leave your blog url there , Yes, you are no longer anonymous !
Blogger is now “Open ID” enabled.
“After just two short weeks of testing on Blogger in draft, OpenID commenting is now available for all Blogger blogs. This means that your friends and readers can leave authenticated comments on your blog using their blog URLs from OpenID-enabledWordPress.com, LiveJournal, and AOL Journals, or with their AOL/AIM accounts.”
NOw, that being said, let me leave you with some from the google blog
” Ironically, our testing of OpenID, a feature that lets you use accounts from all over the web to comment on Blogger, made it appear that we were trying to force you into getting a Google Account. We regret this appearance, since we’re strong supporters of OpenID and open web standards in general.”
Hey what ! you don’t believe me ? Okay, here ya go
Edit
this post is not to blame anyone .. if anyone felt so, please accept my apologies.. ..
I also moved to wordpress long back .. leaving blogger… and this post is not intended to ask anyone to start using blogger !! I will never do it, I am such a big wordpress fan.
I never criticized anyone for boycotting blogger. I am just trying to spread this news, that the mistake has been corrected !

Actually I did not ‘boycott’ Blogger. I merely started the conversation, by asking how people felt about it and if they cared. It appeared that many did.
This was followed by Ruhi’s boycott call to which I referred in a reply to my post. I moved to WordPress from Blogger long ago because of many things. More recently however I stopped commenting on Blogger blogs because of this ‘transition’ issue.
If Google chooses to play out the drama of strategic transition in public like this – and without any prior notice – well they deserve everyone who deserts them. They are on internet time, not regular time; they are a technology company, not a corner shop. They should know better in my opinion.
Thanks for the comment Shefaly… this post is not to blame anyone .. if anyone felt so, please accept my apologies.. ..

and about doing something like this without a prior notice, Yes, it was wrong indeed, and I never criticized anyone for boycotting blogger. I am just trying to spread this news, that the mistake has been corrected !
Dinsan: Thanks. I just thought the attribution needed some clarification
Thanks.
A friend of mine commented on my blog that they were trialling OpenID. He and I have of course been discussing SSO technologies for some 8 years now, but at least I am cynical about Google joining any ‘open’ technology based platforms. He was of course right but I think many have recently left Blogger. Too bad about poorly managed PR I think..
Something happened, most probably mis managed communication…as you suggested… but usually google has the habit of sharing everything through their blogs.. wondering ……….
That’s great, I was thinking why Google had taken such a self destructive kind of a step but I had no clue that they were trying to make it OpenID based. I don’t know how technologically great that thing is but it’s good that we can have our URL’s aka our identity back.
thank you for the comment Ish, Open ID makes it to comment easy, in the web 2.0 .. you dont need an account on each community, but you can use the same ID everywhere … ie, you can use your wordpress ID to post comments on blogger, LJ etc …
Hey, Dinsan…good to post that news. And I can ouch without reading your edits that there was no blame intended. It was pretty clear an information was provided.
Thanks for the news!

Eh, ironically, it strikes me that somebody wouldn’t have noticed the ‘exclusivity’ of their OpenID idea.
But I’m glad to know they changed it.
Good news Dinsan.
I read this as soon as I woke up today. My “Boycott Blogger” campaign ends here. I would like to believe that I did my bit.
I wish they had not made such a stupid move in the first place.
Well even I did not technically “participate” but I don’t mind.
I love your tagline btw. It’s beautiful!
oooh…thanks a lot for the news..
our campaign ends so soon
@ Poonam, thank you … while reading it after sometime, I felt, there is a small chance for it.. so added the edit..
@ Shiloh Walker.. thank you for your comment.. but I am not getting your point
sorry……….
@ Ruhi……. its a good thing that you noticed such a mistake from their side, and try to spread the news, and It did not mean that, I won’t criticize google !
… so came yours hihi… but I strongly believe that you designed that Badge ….. hmm
@ Ashish…. sssh I copied the entire list from Poonam
@ Arvind, …… yes that means you have more time for another campaign..
Well, maybe I don’t get all there is to OpenID, but I don’t think that it works. I’ve tried two OpenID sites. It works for the free WordPress.com version yes, but not for all of us that has own domains on webhotels accounts. Yes, there is a work around where you’re supposed to edit your theme (template) files, but I don’t call that a solution because that means that I have to do that for every time I change theme – which I plan to do – plus opens up for spammers. It’s just not a clean and smooth solution.
MyOpenID.com allows you to leave your blog address in your profile, but that is not a smooth solution. I don’t want my potential visitors to come to an ugly profile page at another OpenID site, I want them to come DIRECT to my blog (like it does if you’re on the free WordPress.com). No extra clicks thank you because that means that I’m going to lose some of them on the way. We all knows that internet users hate to click extra.
OpenID.org doesn’t let me leave my blog address anywhere in my profile at all.
Blogger has for a long while now, sent bloggers to the Blogger blog’s profile instead of the blog in itself and I just hate that. some bloggers have several blogs and how is I suppose to know which one I shall choose? I’ve no intention to go through all their blogs. So: I skip them. And I’m probably not the only one…
I’ve been working within IT for over 20 years, in projects creating new systems and applications. I’ve learned that it’s important, if not crucial, that things shall be USER FRIENDLY. Where has that thought gone?
Yes, I agree, its not a permanent fix yet .. but should give time for them to get things on track.. dont you think so ?
Thats news to me ! Thanks for posting! I’ll check it out !
Hello there,
I have a question for the webmaster/admin here at http://www.offlineblog.net.
Can I use some of the information from your blog post above if I give a link back to your website?
Thanks,
Jack
