The AOL Mail Experience : Part 1

January 29th, 2008 · 19 Comments · Uncategorized

“There is a little bit of me in AOL mail”. Well, thats true. They have ads too !! like I have on this blog. Is it really bad to have ads ? hmm I would say, No, but when I open my inbox, I am expecting my inbox first and not just ads.

First Impression ?

Yes, opening your mail will not take you directly to your inbox. You see a copy of aol.in’s home page along with some ads. So my first impression was not that good. But it could’een better if they avoided that right - left scroll ( I really hate when I have to scroll left - right on a web page )

Inbox

Inbox looked much better ! As highlighted in those ads, you have delete move etc options on each mail, which is quite innovative and user friendly. You can do the same actions in the traditional way too, ie selection few mails together and then moving it to trash or making unread etc.

It certainly has the cool look, that they concentrate on, throughout the ads.

If you compare it with Yahoo! and Gmail ?

For Gmail, its a NO, it can not reach the Gmail level of user friendly experience and feature list, but it can be a light competitor for Yahoo! mail. But if AOL works more on the user interface, make it less cluttered, and re arrange the homepage of the mail, ( come on guys, concentrate a little here too, not just ads ) it can be a tough competitor for Yahoo! mail.

Interesting review…but I don’t have any reason for giving AOL a try. I’m happy with Yahoo and GMail.

    @ Ruhi

I get an interesting point from what you said ;) …….. AOL’s timing is not that good, since Yahoo! and Gmail is already popular and I dont see much space for new email providers.. :)

Yep, exactly what I expected from AOL Mail. Is it slow also?

And, I can see Ruhi works for Tumblr and you work for Google. Both earn a lot of money, man I should really start endorsing something too. Maybe Maria Sharapova, she’s more interesting than Google and Tumblr after all. Plus, a screenshot of Sharpie would be better than a screenshot of Google or Tumblr anyday. :P

    @ Ish

Yes Ish, a bit slow.. coz it has lot of graphics.. trying to make it look like Vista i think..

Hmmm thats a better Idea, in that I case I will put mallika sherawat, rakhi sawanth, bipasha etc on my blog.. many of them .. better than just Sharpie :P what is your pick Ruhi ?
