Looking at Yahoo! and Google, the first difference that you notice is, Yahoo! is presenting everything in a colorful way, with glossy buttons and all. Google is doing exactly opposite. They have followed simple designs with a light blue shade, on most of their online services.
If you take advertisements, Yahoo has more image ads on their own pages, those flash videos and colorful images etc. Google always ( as far as I know ) stick to text ads, on their pages. ( search results and mail inboxes etc )
Now, the interesting part, I haven’t seen anyone complaining about Yahoo! making it all colorful ( except those flash ads which makes yahoo mail load slow ) or about Google for being too simple So, I should assume, most of us like those two ways of presenting stuff on the net.
If you ask me, I love to see my inbox simple, I want search results load faster, without glossy borders or image ads, but, I dont want movie reviews or tech news to be presented in a dry format. There, I will need some colors and images etc etc.
In other words, I love the way that Yahoo! presents Movie News, Tech News, etc etc and I love google for making gmail, google reader, google notebook etc simple, and fast.
I feel, this thought gives a vague idea on why - Gmail is popular than Yahoo! mail, and Flickr is more popular than Piccasa , or rather why Piccasa couldn’t perform or beat Flickr as Gmail did with Yahoo! mail.
Over to you guys n gals out there !!
I’m sorry but yahoo mail is popular than Gmail.
Otherwise great post.
@ Niyaz,
thanks for the comment and welcome !
lets wait for more comments here
hmm, Its your perception, and this is my view… that gmail is more popular than yahoo
BTW, you are using gmail too.. right ?
yahoo loads a lot slower than google pagewise
and mailwise it is the opposite
the whole arguement depends on what u want to do
Oh God! Another Google post
I’ve always used Yahoo mail…I do use Gmail, but it doesn’t even have a https:// connection unless you use greasemonkey script…and I told you about the signature problem (shifts to the bottom of the message body)..
But I agree with Niyaz…Yahoo Mail is more popular than Gmail. Yahoo! Mail already has unlimited storage, you know?
lookwise…I prefer yahoo, but functionality wise…iGoogle is much better, even though I don’t use it.
@ Ruhi
Okay, https, is a point.. hmm
unlimited storage.. come on, overselling is a marketing tool, only a marketing tool !! look at the hosting industry, you see companies providing 1500GB storage etc, just think about it.. when you only need less than 100 MB for a wordpress blog
Again, signature problem is something that I agree with. anyway, I have decided to wait for some google fans to come and make comments !!
Where are you guyzzzzzzzz !!!!!
@ Prax,
Sorry, your comment was awaiting moderation.. dint see that..
hmmm may be it loads faster.. but gmail introduced chat first.. then lot of other features.. hmm when I tried Yahoo mail beta, it was much slower than anything else in this world !!
but I agree, everything depends on what you want to do
There are very few Google fans
OK, not don’t hit me…*I’m running*
@ Ruhi
Google fans of the world, UNITE !!!!!
anyways, I am not against Yahoo ! …… it will be my second love.. look for more n more yahoo things here
may be yahoo mail loads faster but i like gmail interface better.. who said gmail doesnt have secure login.. gmail uses n iframe which has https enabled.. so u may not see it on ur browser but it is safe and after u login u can add an s to http and move on to secure line.. try it out if u don’t believe me!
As far as search goes yahoo sucks.. it doesn’t list blogs well! and i dont lie the way search results are listed either!
@ Balu
Ooh.. finally a another google lover !!! Ruhi ………. there are few guys around here..
thanks for the comment Balu
I really want to look closer in to those search results and this comparison..
would love to see your feedbacks as well
u can call be a google lover but I prefer wordpress to blogger!
a far as the ads goes I prefer picture ads (lets forget load times shall we) the text ads look quite bad!
@ Balu
People loving wordpress than blogger, is a common thing Balu, add me to that list
I love to play with ads.. not sure if I really love or hate image ads.. I include them according to the theme.. and i keep playing with themes too changing them all the times
Yes, I agree that the Google search engine is much better. But weren’t we talking about everything else apart from the search engine?
Balu: Didn’t know about that https:// thing…but I use greasemonkey for lots of google products…to remove to adsense ads, and to customize the way my google search engine page looks etc.
Btw, Dinsan you might want to try http://customizegoogle.com if you already haven’t that is.
And waiting for that special piece of news
@ Ruhi
Okay, so you agree, there is something on search.. that makes google special
I have installed that extension. will try it when I restart FF
thanks for that
i used to use greasemonkey. Havn’t installed it since I formatted my system though!
