My Malayalam Blogging Experience.

by dinu on May 16, 2008

I know I don’t have enough experience in Malayalam blogging to actually get in to writing a review about it. These are my random thoughts on writing in Malayalam or few notes on what I am doing there.

(1) I am still trying to learn to type in good Manglish that Blogger will understand, in order to transliterate it in to Malayalam words.

(2) I do not know how Google will index blogs in Mayalam or any language other than English. I am still at zero on SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) in Indic languages including Malayalam.

(3) 99% of Malayalam blogs are on blogger.com ( or blogspot ) and there are only very few people who actually try it with Wordpress.com or wordpress.org

(4) There is a good community of Malayalam bloggers.

(5) There is lot of serious blogging happening. They are discussing politics, history, international issues,poetry,culture.. and lot of serious topics.

(6) Malayalam blogging community is trying everything possible to get more people in to Malayalam blogging.

(7) Most of the Malayalam blogs are 100% in Malayalam.

(8) I am yet to see someone who is trying to make money through blogging.

(9) I need to personally ask Malayalam bloggers if they are satisfied with what they get on Blogger.com

(10) I will try to bring them to Wordpress.

8) Yes this has been done through Malayalam blogging.

Though most of the bloggers havent put adsense — either they dont get approved or just not interested.

9 and 10) What are the advantages to WordPress other than good templates and tracking with I.P?

@ Injipennu

Yes, I was not looking at the technical part of it.. people consider content important and not ads… ( dont think that I am against ads )
Its a good sign :)

Advantages of Wordpress ? …. probably you haven’t used wordpress much … try it out .. and you will see the difference.. :)

Dinu,
Like you said most of the mal bloggers are on blogger, you could start a campaign to move them to wordpress. I had an accout with blogger, but switched to wordpress as it simple and neat.
I do vist some of the malayalam blogs regularly.

(1) I am still trying to learn to type in good Manglish that Blogger will understand, in order to transliterate it in to Malayalam words.

Google-s transliteration tool is an emerging/evolving tool to type Malayalam. You can also try other offline tools like varamozhi, Baraha (Win), Swanalekha (GNU/Linux).

(2) I do not know how Google will index blogs in Mayalam or any language other than English. I am still at zero on SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) in Indic languages including Malayalam.
Yes! Google bot can read *Unicode* Malayalam… :)

(3) 99% of Malayalam blogs are on blogger.com ( or blogspot ) and there are only very few people who actually try it with Wordpress.com or wordpress.org

Thats really sad. I am too an ardent fan of wordpress blogs though my Malayalam blog is located at blogspot.com.

(4) There is a good community of Malayalam bloggers.
Yeah! there is… really strong!!! :)

(5) There is lot of serious blogging happening. They are discussing politics, history, international issues,poetry,culture.. and lot of serious topics.
Thats quite obvious from “Gods own country”

(6) Malayalam blogging community is trying everything possible to get more people in to Malayalam blogging.
Kerala Blog Academy aims at creating awareness among the common public about the power of blogging, not necessarily Malayalam blogging.

(7) Most of the Malayalam blogs are 100% in Malayalam.
some are in Chinese ;) :P

(8) I am yet to see someone who is trying to make money through blogging.
There are people who monetizes their blog. I was into it in the initial stages of my blogging, got banned in the end due to malpractices :D

(9) I need to personally ask Malayalam bloggers if they are satisfied with what they get on Blogger.com
there are something which wordpress.com blogs can’t offer which blogger.com offers, like comment tracking through e-mail, inclusion of javascripts, post via e-mail etc

(10) I will try to bring them to Wordpress.
good! but there are lots of fans for blogger.com blogs. You (& wordpress.com) have to convince them.

To add to that, I find Malayalam written in English font much more literate than the actual Malayalam font in the internet. Hmm!
