Blogging in Indic Languages, do you ?

I have started blogging in Malayalam too !!

I find reading Malayalam blogs more interesting than actually writing blogs in Malayalam…. may be because I am not used to writing Malayalam online using the transliteration and similar stuff, where we write words using English letters which will be changed to the desired language automatically.

When I started reading Malayalam blogs, I found that most of them use Blogger.com since they have the transliteration feature, a feature which makes blogging in Indic languages really easy. Why don’t they just use WordPress.org or WordPress.com ? We really need more people start using WordPress, to blog in Indic languages. Don’t you think so ?

Initially I started with Blogger itself, and then started copying the content to WordPress and it worked perfect. Just that I typed everything using Blogger.com and then published it using WordPress.org blog on this domain itself. ( sssh … secret .. I have another installation of WordPress on this domain where I play with themes and now Malayalam Blogging )

If you install certain softwares, which enables transliteration on your computer, you can directly blog in Indic languages, using WordPress platform. So I installed “Keyman” and started writing to WordPress blog directly, in Malayalam.

Next, I tried to edit wordpress themes, and translate them to Malayalam. I think, its pretty much easy to do. I haven’t finished it yet, but I will link to the translated wordpress theme as soon as its done.

Recently, I found that there is actually a Malayalam section at WordPress.com itself.

I will try to bring more Malayalam bloggers to WordPress. For that, I will have to convince them that WordPress is the best that they can get … I am sure you guys can help me with resources which will help me to collect information to convince these guys… please let me know about websites, blogs, or your own posts about this.

Do you blog in any other language ? may be your mother tongue ? do you use WordPress or blgger.com ? Any tips ?

Blogger is not great .. it just sucks in most of the things.. but transliteration + google adsense has made them capable of making it big…..

one thing I like in the new blogger is the comment tracking by e-mail….

I have written a post in my wordpress blog on different features of wordpress and blogspot… should I spam here ;)

Malayalam rendering is perfect afetr Windows XP SP2 (install support for complex scripts in Control Panel–> Regional settings), and use firefox 3 …(don’t forget to download Firefox 3 on coming Tuesday)

Malayalam renders perfect in GNU/Linux … with fonts like meera (which won’t work perfectly in M$ windows), the rendering is SUPERB!!!!…. I love meera… :)

Comment tracking is a good feature…. but there are tonnes of other features on WordPress that Blogger cant give… and yea be careful when you praise Blogger here lol there are Blogger hate community around us :P jk jk

thnx for calling me pR@tz …. :D … everyone calls me ‘njaan’ these days (though I am njaan at my blogspot blog)…… [yeah! a frnd of M.A.Dhavan..... ;) ]

I am a fan of blogger for its unique features like post-by-email (though I haven’t used it yet, but is handy when blogspot is blocked in your org.) and as I said before the comment tracking feature…

I also have the the opinion that wordpress is NOT powerful as blogger when it is at wordpress.com …. i cant edit my templates, i cant insert scripts,….. and I think blogger is much more n00b-friendly …… esp with the new design, wordpress is latin n greek for a n00b

but… again.. am a fan of wordpress

I didn’t say I am a fan of blogger…. but that wordpress blogs @ wordpress.com IS NOT powerful as blogspot.com blogs… :) …but if you install wordpress in your domain, nothing will come near it….

    @ pR@tz

But, blogger is controlling a lot of stuff…. not as open source as wordpress is ….. blogger theme designing and editing is much complicated.. ( I agree, when it comes to wordpress.com blogs, you should pay them if you need to edit css ) . above all .. the commenting part is too much complicated…… if you dont have a blogger ID or if you are using your own domain or other blogging service……..

Thanks for visiting my blog :)

I was looking for a plugin, so that we can enable transliteration as in Blogger.com, on wordpress too :)

    Hello banna and others,

I wrote a plugin to enable transliteration of indic languages including malayalam in self-hosted wordpress blogs.

Visit http://teck.in/google-indic-transliteration-wordpress-plugin.html and download the plugin.
