Opera Mini : The mobile browser

Do you browse the web using mobile phone ? Are you a newbie in this area looking for a good mobile browser ? Opera Mini is the best option for you.

  • It looks good
  • Works Fast
  • It’s free

On my mobile browser ( I don’t know the name ) that came default with the handset, large pages won’t load, because it is trying to display everything in the actual size.

Opermini re sizes the websites to fit on the screen and when we can navigate the page, and zoom wherever we want to see things in the actual size.

The Opera Mini experience has been fabulous so far. I tried accessing my gmail, orkut, webmail for this domain ( Google Apps ), This blog itself, and finally the wordpress admin page too !!

I am still playing with this little cutie. I will need to organize my bookmarks, save passwords for mail accounts and wordpress admin page. ( entering username and password using mobile browsers, is really  boring and time consuming. )

What is the best way to publish this post ?

Well, I will save this draft now, and then login to wordpress using Opera Mini and hit the publish button from my mobile phone !!. It worked right ?

i gave up mobile browsing coz
    1. vodafone speed is pathetic.
    2. the signal is jumpy almost everywhere.
    3. its expensive. and not worth it for that kinda speed. I dont have the patience.
    :)

    @ Xylene

I am not browsing on the mobile all the time !!… this is just for checking mails etc, on the go,and I can’t simply leave mobile browsing just because its slow ….

Dinu, You could have made this post more informative by adding points like
    1. Downloading opermini on PC or directly on mobile
    2. Difference between Signed Version & Unsigned Version
    etc etc

You know, now we have a “save as” option in Opera Mini like we have on our desktop browser. So now you can download files on mobile also. Some GPRS connections give slow speed when connected to PC, but mostly speed on mobile is much higher. So in emergency we can download something on mobile too.

For wordpress, try http://m.wordpress.com on mobile browser and also on desktop browser.

Plz add two points I mentioned to your post.

    hmm…i have this by default….but i don’t use mob for browsing :)

    #9 dinu on 07.01.08 at 10:37 pm

    @ Amit,

If you are using vodafone prepaid, its 10ps for 10kb. Don’t use it for too much of browsing, but checking mails on the go …. and for the mobile internet experience.

    @ Vishesh

You have it by default ? should be a new Nokia right ? I saw this on my friend’s Xpress Music series … it was default browser, I guess

a colleague of mine uses opera on his cell and he seems to be pretty happy about it. also he blogs and so replies to the messages on his posts.

as for me, i use my cell phone only for calls, sms and alarms. no browsing and stuff for me.

I’ve been using Opera Mini since a couple of years now I guess. I’d been disconnected from the Internet (via PC) and Opera Mini saved me. Lovely browser. Does everything I want, except maybe the execution of AJAX, which is probably not done right because Opera Mini parses data through its own servers first. Love the browser.

BTW, try using Opera 9.50 and Opera Mini together. You can sync the bookmarks between both the devices using http://link.opera.com. The only feature missing is perhaps the sync of the RSS feeds as well.

I had used this once/twice on Santosh’s mobile..(in tuts during a class I guess :P ). It was great indeed and was easy enough to use it.
No clue how it is now; well it must be ruling i guess… Will surely use this app on my mob once I get it… :)
