Kerala Govt. to Ban Mobile Phones in Schools !!

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Yes, that’s right !! Kerala Government will soon implement a new law,  that will  ban children from using mobile phones in schools.

All what we have now is a mere government order that mobiles cannot be used in schools. But now it has been decided that we will introduce new laws to this effect, banning the use of mobiles in all schools,’ Balakrishnan told the state assembly.

Do they really need cell phones in Schools ? I don’t think so. Well, its not because I did not have a mobile phone when was in School .. ( yep, I am not jealous !! ) but, I really don’t see any use for mobile phones in school, at least when they are in the Class rooms.

But, if you ask if I have seen any one misusing Mobile phones in schools, sorry, No, but I think there are chances, ( like any other place ) but, we don’t expect any such incident from Schools right ? What do you think ?  Its time for some serious discussion now !!!

Same here, i dont think there is any reason for schoolchildren to carry a cellphone to classes. I rather have the kids concentrate on studies, sports and other extra curricular activities than peering into a cellphone the whole time.

And i dont take the crap from the parents that they need to contact the kids and stuff. They can go the traditional way of calling up the office / Principal’s office and then contacting their kids.

lol, they did that a long time back here…but anyway a lot of ppl bring mobiles …a few of us give it to the teachers and collect it at the end of the day(i take it when parents go out of town ) ..and during cultural…lol all the brands are on display :)

@ Philip

Yep,I have the same opinion … and yea parents can call office numbers if they really need to.

@ Vishesh

LOl, we will see them doing it here too, and yea, you get punished if they find them ?

That’s a good decision. I don’t think that school students have the necessary to use mobile phones. Here in Bangalore PU students are only not allowed to bring mobiles.
And regarding in Kerala, I think they must be more strict…!

Whatever it is, the govt has taken a right step in doing so..!

// And regarding in Kerala, I think they must be more strict…! // Why why ? Kerala’s schoolchildren **looks for rekha ** has some problem ?

We should see someone going on strike against this decision soon ;)

Parents feel safe if children have mobiles with them at school.
Nowadays there is a phenomenon called ‘Tuition Classes’ which generally start after the school & tend to stretch up to late hours in the evening (also night). In these scenarios parents do fell safe & more so if they have a girl child.

P.S.But I vote for banning ‘Camera phones’ in school 4 obvious reasons.

@ Rahul

You have a point there, sometimes, its good to have it with them , but NO NO for camera phones.

we banned smoking in public but its not enforced.
who will ensure enforcing this? the teachers?

#12 dinu on 07.09.08 at 11:06 pm

@ Xylene

for sometime they will, say 6 months maximum .. and then things will return to normal …. :D what you think ?

#13 Joel on 07.10.08 at 11:27 am

@Dinu: No, I meant to say that they must be strict to school children like not permitting mobiles in schools.
And what Rekha has said, problems like that may occur too.

And a strike? No ways, I don’t think that it would work…!

Rules are never enforced i Kerala.. let it be the smoking ban or the helmet law…
Mobiles are not a necessity among students.. schools can have coin operated phones instead and parents can give their kids a few rupee coins to call them in case of an emergency… chances of misuse are also there
