Hi,
It will depend on your perspective. But having lived in many cities and visited even more cities, I believe that it is probably the best city to live in the country in terms of quality of life.
Cheers,
Salil

The traffic may be pathetic, the auto guys may be bad, the roads may be poor and the govt may nto be exactly communal, but stiill I would love to be here

Reasons
It’s the only city in S.India I would be comfortable settling in
Kochi is still not progressive enough
Chennai is way too hot
Hyderabad is no better!
So by rule of elimination, it’s Bangalore!

Bangalore has the typical Mediterranean climate with a high of 32 degrees Celsius & and

I went to Bangalore once for a short trip of 7 days. It was like any other big city in India. It seemed just like Calcutta to me……. lot of people, cars, shopping places, cinemas, etc. It was a pleasant experience & yah I made it a point to see the Temples of new India i.e. the head offices of the IT biggies……….somehow I felt proud to be an indian :)

@everyone who commented on bad conditions in our Bangalore,
If u had seen bangalore well u would say its the best place in India to stay and to have fun. Who said nigths will be over by 12!! U havent seen Bang then… Its the only city where most of the ppl can understand and speak other languages like English and other NCR languages. You ppl are lucky to see the signboards in English too,go else where in India and check. When it is growing at a rate like this,it will be surely difficult to manage the traffic and stuff. One has to bare all these, because you are here to find your life.We never invited you. Its because of you we are facing a problem of living expensive. All in all Its only Bangalore which stands in the top even in the global level. Be proud!!! For those who are commenting on weather, Our city (nanna Bangalore) is known for modest weather in India. I need not say all these to you ppl. I bet you ppl will find thousand of reasons and problems in your cities.
Bangalore rocks!!

Hey,

I’m one of Bangalore’s biggest fans! I’ve lived in 6 countries, visited countless others, and finally come back and settled down in my wunnerful hometown!

Yes, the traffic sucks
Sure theres tons of pollution
Ha, the autowallah’s are always looking to take you for a ride (and not literally)

But the people are soo warm! They will never hesitate to help you with anything, be it reversing your car or asking about some new place. And the weather, despite the construction, is something no one can ever complain about!

I suppose what I love the most about this city is that I feel like anythign can happen here. The mix of people from all over India and everyone’s ideas makes it really motivating.

End of the day I suppose we all love the place where are friends are!

#33
don on 12.25.09 at 2:26 am

bangalore is the worst city of india and bangloreans have this imaginary delusion that they are living in a good city…bangalore was a neat and clean and very less crowded city and called pensioners paradise…but this was in late 80s….from the 90s till now the city has decayed into an urban mess…don’t give excuses of other cities…go to cities like delhi and see the development…flyovers all over, metro, broad roads, toll bridges well planned suburban areas…don’t give me bull about crime…bangalore’s crime rate has increased like anything..try travelling alone in a 2 wheeler after 12’0 clock in the night..mumbai is also far far better in infrastructure…can u find any other city with 10 laned arterial roads…well 2 of them within the city..plus the public transport 1000 times better than bangalore…i think best place in south india right now is hyderabad…it is well planned with all IT development taking in one corner of the city and not disrupting earlier city development…chennai is also very congested though roads are broader than bangalore…let me put in a nutshell…if u travel in bangalore on a bus, u will see construction vehicles, trucks, mini trucks, 20 buses lined one after the other, cargo autos and tempos all of them providing an ugly sight on the narrow roads…bangalore was a dream but the dream has gone sour for sure.

Bangalore a city .. what a joke, its still a developing town. Whatever development bangalore has today is because of the few IT companies. Only bangaloreans and the young graduates migrating for jobs from small villages across india will find bangalore awesome.
1) To start with like other big cities, there is absolutely no organised public transport. The only mode of public transport are junk and old unorganised bus services, infact public transport in other smaller towns are better then bangalore. Connectivity sucks, if one has to travel to other part of bangalore, they have to come to center of bangalore and change the junk buses, you cannot survive without private vehicle.
2) Ever city has traffic problems, but bangalore traffic is a mess because of narrow roads, pathetically planned distribution of traffic etc. The only broad road you see is the one connecting the new international airport and bangalore. This the only development you will see in bangalore. Even the suburbs in delhi and mumbai have 10-12 lanes highway.
3) The quality of internal road, footpath, signals, flyover are sub-standard then any town in india.
4) The public services sucks, so is the electricity and water problems.
5) City is know for its infrastructure and not for gardens, there are many hill stations in india, if one wishes to see gardens. Good infrastructure is the last thing you will see in bangalore. And its not going to happen in the near future, because of karnataka electing pathetic corrupt goverment everytime.
6) Even the slums in mumbai have better connectivity and infrastructure then bangalores many residentials area.
7) In a recent survey bangalore has topped the chart in crime rate, infact if you travel late at night you are just a step away from getting stabbed.
8) There is 20 times more traffic in delhi and mumbai, but pollution level is 20 times more in bangalore then delhi and mumbai.
Bangalore is far far away from being called a developed city, bamgalore has got the world attention because of the IT industries, and this has created a illusion that bangaloreans are living in the best city. I hope that atleast the goverment plans a good city at devanhalli and places outside bangalore.

Hi…..

I am a residing in bangalore for the past 7 years .Bangalore is known for its IT Industries and weather . But the weather is not good for people having asthma …..my son is suffering too much ‘coz of the weather..again it has a hell lot of electric problem and off course “WATER PROBLEM” … So people who are cool with all these issues for them Bangalore is the “BEST”.But to me its as ordinary as another city . Nothing special about it .Its name is hyped ‘coz of the IT industries..

Hi All…..I am a Bong who is migrating from Kolkata to Bangalore on account of a new job that I have got. I am married with two children, a seven year old son and a 2.5 year old daughter. As you can understand, my children are my biggest concern. My son is in one of the best schools of Kolkata and I was wondering of he can get into an equally good school in Bangalore in class III or IV without me having to spend a fortune in “donations”. Secondly I am apprehensive about the “asthma” issue that plagues bangalore. Is it really that accute that a normal child from Kolkata can get effected in Bangalore? Otherwise I see no major challenges in my family and I adjusting to the other “challenges” in Bangalore which is so very common across urban India. Please reply and do guide me. Thanks – Anupam Chatterjee.

Sudipto on 08.10.11 at 12:38 pm

I lived in Delhi and I have lived in Bangalore and I don’t see what is all the fuss about.

It does take a stretch to call Bangalore the best city in India to live in primarily because of its poor infrastructure and regionalist sentiments.

And no matter what you do, you’ll always be an “outsider” in Bangalore. You will be immediately subjected to opinions about how this city was ruined by the arrival of outsiders. How the city used to be heaven and now is ruined by “outsiders.”

They’d do everything to make a point and make up fake statistics to prove it. One of the most popular one’s going around is that there are only 38% Kannadigas (locals) in Bangalore, the rest are “outsiders.” A simple Internet search reveals that this is a bogus claim but that doesn’t stop the regionalist from fanning up trouble.

However the most obnoxious part is the belief by these locals that they own every piece of land in Bangalore, that the land is theirs and in-fact they’re doing you a favour in letting you stay there.

They also have this mistaken notion that the IT industry was their creation, while conveniently forgetting that people from all over India work.

Many, many issues, but there is a pattern to all of this. Keep the “outsiders” out of Bangalore.

I only wish others who’re trying to relocate to Bangalore, luck. And do hope that people find other places of work.

@priya: Bangalore is the only city in India with maximum number of temples, mosques, churches & gurdwaras.May i know the source of this information. It’s wrong.

Also 40% parks.. :(

Bangalore is a gud place , i agree but the little things like Auto-Riskshwas driver poor behaviour , house owner demands, greediness for money lies in the blood of bangloreans. Whether is not important but what i am feeling localides cheat the outsiders here.

Have you ever been to cities like Mangalore and Mysore. Those are much better than Bangalore..

These days bangalore is the worse place to stay.. My ratings for bangalore 2/5.

Atul

banglore is a very beautiful city..but the people here are mean selfish and they can do anything for money..the problem of banglore r auto walas..local people..its like if ur coming from north india u wont feel comfortable here.its like coming in hell.if you are with your family dont ever come to banglore the people here r mad.cheap dont know how to talk only knows how to take money.i hate banglore and the people which r living their.only black fucking people..

#49
Atul Gupta on 09.04.11 at 2:28 am

@Nidhi: Totally Agree with Nidhi.
I am living in this hell from the past 8 months and very soon wana to go back to North..

One thing which I found common in North as well as in South, that localides are making the life of IT professionals very difficult. Their hunger for money is on par.. in any case like house rent, food etc..

#50
Jagdish on 09.07.11 at 8:55 pm

Its not the locals but goons and criminals from the nearby villages who have political support. For example most of the autowalas have criminal record.
I remember myself when i was new to bangalore, i had gone to bannerghatta for some work. I asked a autowala to drop me to the bustop which was not even 1 km away. The actual fare shouldn’t have been Rs 10, he asked me for 100 rs. I said why such a high amount, he said this place is outside city and we have our own fare system. When i refused to pay, he immediately made call to his friends and in minutes they arrived as if they were hiding nearby. I sensed something fishy , they were getting ready to attack me. I was already carrying lot of cash, gold chain and laptop. I said o.k and quitely paid, else there is no doubting they would thrashed me.
Bangalore is not shithole but yes however hard they try it can never be cosmopolitan not even a city in the first place.
