Google’s Secret : GDrive

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

When we discussed the question,  if google is going to build an operating system,  I told you about the possibility of Google using Cloud Computing, enabling you to store your files in their servers and access them from anywhere. Now, a little ( related ) secret is revealed. A new product that Google is planning, will be  called GDrive.

“GDrive provides reliable storage for all of your files, including photos, music and documents. GDrive allows you to access your files from anywhere, anytime, and from any device – be it from your desktop, web browser or cellular phone.”

That is the official description of Gdrive project, accidentally revealed from a file  used by Google Pack. So wait for the announcement. I will keep you posted :)

G drive has been there for more than 2 years. I had downloaded the beta and tested before uninstalling it long back.

Like any other Google product, it was probably meant to be only in the lab till Microsoft’s Live Drive and other competitors came up. Anyway, G Drive is another feature from Google to eat into MS’s cash cows like destkop & server operating systems etc.

I presume its a hardware, if that is the case i really don’t see a utility in that, I can as well buy a external HDD and dumped all my emails there via thunderbird! Software may make sense but really its just a me too product.

no, its not a hardware product … you get some space in their server to store files and images etc, and you can access them from anywhere, if connected to internet …

We’ve written a nice little article on just this subject on our blog. There’s an overview of the rumoured functionality along with the privacy and security issues associated with it.
