Taste some “WINE”

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hmm … thinking what I am up to ? okay, I had the same confusion when I found news  ” Wine 1.4 released” etc on digg.com. After that confusion, I read ….. WINE is an opensource project for Linux operating systems, which will help you run Windows applications on your Linux computer. Awesome !!

I did install WINE on my Linuxed laptop, and tried to install Chrome on it. However, it did not work since the Google Chrome file for this was not available for download for some reason. It gave me a “404 not found” error. But, I can use notepad and few other applications on Linux now.

I do not know much about WINE at the moment. However, I will try to use it more in coming days, and let you all know my experience. If you need more info on WINE,  jump to following pages.

1.  Winehq.org
2. Wine, from “All About Linux
3. Wine, how to on Lifehacker.

This is an interesting find.

Went to the wine website and looks like this project started way back in 1993! Thats a long time coming…

Will try it out. Sounds like a useful tool.

Wine is awesome.. been using it to play windows only games on linux.. of course its not table enough and crashes quite often. But it comes handy when you have to run a windows program from win partition when logged into linux.

If you are using linux try KDE 4.01 not quite stable but will make you linux look like (much better than) vista.. do a google image search for preview
