The Joy of Turning the last Page of the Book

by dinu on March 26, 2009

That’s what I am feeling right now. The joy of turning the last page of the book…  finished reading another book ! I feel great !! Do you feel the same when you finish a book ? . Well, text books are an exception, when you are at the last page, you know it’s time for exams !

The Motorcycle Diaries : Ernesto “Che” Guevra

Now, about the last book I read. ( This is not a book review, but just my thoughts about the book. )  I picked this one with loads of expectations. I am not quite sure  if this was up to my expectations. But, it was touching, that’s for sure.

A sincere travelogue by a young medical student. In that way this book is more than perfect. But, I was expecting something about how he became the Che that we know. I was disappointed, to some extend, but the last chapter of the book did give something that I wanted.

I haven’t read much about Che, but I could find only about the revolutionary wherever I looked. This book however gave me different aspect of his life and I think that was really important.

Favourite Line from the Book :  ” But despite his words, I now knew .. ..I knew that when the great guiding spirit cleaves humanity into two antagonistic halves, I would be with the people. I knew this I see it printed in the night sky …. “

This is from the last paragraph of the book. After an adventurous journey through various countries of Latin America, the journey that lasted for months,  young Che speaks. I couldn’t see signs of this thought anywhere else in the book, even though he did mention how difficult life was for some sections of society.

Another one from the same paragraph, as a closing note for this blog post : ” You are as useful as Iam, but you are not aware of how useful your contribution is to the society that sacrifices you”

I agree that reading a story is one of the great joys in life. As a woman I especially enjoy reading romance.
Ever since I became a mommy I haven’t had the time to read romance novels anymore. My life changed so much. Now that my boys are a bit older I have a bit more time to do things that bring me joy. I’ll have to go buy some books for myself =)
All the best,
Eren
