Twitter : Will you follow me just because I followed you ?

This is not a “happy” post.  I am just explaining how I feel about a certain nature of some ( read many ) twitizens, they follow you just because you followed them, or they follow you, to make you follow them.

Should I follow you just because you followed me ? Is it the only way to say thanks to my new follower ? Of course not, an RT, or a Direct message will do. But still, people do follow back. Are you expecting someone to follow you back, just because you followed them ?

Okay, let me make this clear. I will follow people only if their tweets are useful or good or nice etc. ie, if I am interested in what they tweet about.  If you are following me, thank you, thank you very much, but don’t follow me just because I followed you, but only if my tweets are useful to you !

ain’t that fine people ?

I think thats the fundamental premise of twitter. To follow when you find it of some ‘value’ !

But like all things in life, there is mad rush towardsd showing off number of followers, number of tweets, number of … that i can quite get !

And so there are tweets like, ‘dont try to trick me to follow you and then unfollow. I will also unfollow’ !

Frankly, i tweet. Follow. Retweet. And just roll on. And if i find somebody interesting, i just follow with no expectations of a ‘follow’ ! It just doesnt matter if somebody is going to follow me back or otherwise !

Life is ruined with this ‘expectation in return’ business.

And that last line, is not necessarily limited to twitter !

Though i hardly go to twitter these days, i follow people who follow me. But then, my tweets are protected so i allow only those whom i wish to follow.

I stopped going to twitter mainly coz i didnt have much to contribute!! :)

No, you don’t follow everyone that follows you. Its up to you to decide. ;)

@ Kavi

yes, if you are worried only about being a good twitizen and not about number of people you follow or your followers, you are good enough :)

when you start worrying about number of followers, that becomes an issue … people who follow you just because you followed them bring no value to your twitter life.

@ sakhi

sometimes silence is the best we can contribute .. that’s not bad either ..

@ vishesh

hmm, if their tweets are not protected, you can go ahead and read few tweets, or read their bio .. and yes, you can unfollow after trying out :)

@ Suda

right :)

Well I hardly follow people on my own unless its someone I know from blogosphere. People follow me and I go to their profile. If I find their bio and latest tweets interesting then I follow them.
