windows 7 chrome
Finally, I downloaded a copy of windows 7 release candidate, and I am using it right now. Not on my laptop. My laptop is messed up right now, it won’t install any OS at all ( don’t have an windows XP disc with me, but tried fedora, ubuntu and windows 7, all errors … and I am screwed .. time to call acer support guys .. ). So I had to install windows 7 on another laptop.
It was real tough downloading a 2GB file ( 64 bit version is 3GB btw ) but airtel’s Speed on Demand helped me out there. So yea, if you ever need help in downloading big files, faster than your normal connection speed, airtel speed on demand is a real good and easy to use service, try it out … and yea, you must pay for this extra speed though.
Windows 7 looks almost like vista, but the start up and the overall design looks good. Try searching google images, for some screenshots. Will be fun, I promise. And yea it has vista only in its looks, this thing works way better than vista. I was up and running in less than an hour, and things worked pretty much out of the box, on acer laptop with 2gb ram and intel processor and card.
The good thing is I can use this evaluation copy till may 2010, and after that I will get pop ups asking me to upgrade, and I think this will start shutting down itself every two hours, if I continue to use without upgrading, but till then, I am good.
I installed google chrome, firefox, google talk, and filezilla ( for ftp uploads and downloads ) without any errors. I have a small red icon on my task bar, something called the “action center” asking me to find an anti-virus software online. So, I should look at some anti virus options also. What would you suggest ?
I will post more on my windows 7 experience soon, stay tuned ! and yea, one thing is sure, MS is back on track with this Windows 7 … hope geek gods forgive them for their Vista crimes …

Ah these gates and windows…! I guess your trial and inputs are pretty interesting indeed.
And the other day, i read a super duper geek pick up line. ‘Hi my name is Vista. Can i crash at your place tonight’ !
I hope the new windows 7 is better off !
hahahah good geeky pickup line LOL !!
and yea, so far, so good .. will keep you all posted about windows 7
Me planning to get Home Premium whenever it comes out in India. (Hopefully they will sell it cheaper in India) For an antivirus I would suggest kaspersky. They are selling it for Rs500 and can be used in 3 computers. But they nag a lot if you use expert mode. Otherwise it’s smooth sailing. The actual price is close to 1.7 but they are selling it cheap at retail, cos they are bring out latest version in a month or two

I am still on good old XP. Have heard too many horror stories to even think of trying Vista. I hope Win7 works well.

I have been using Windows 7 for 3 months, no major problems. All my favorite programs are working perfectly.
Overall performance is quite good. I have no anti virus installed, not even a single attack till now. I would say one of the best OS ever developed. And i recommend you to try it.
that matches my view. so far, its good .. no major problems ..
downloaded, installed but no time to try it out. Looks much like a very scaled down version of Vista. Nothing much in the product anyway.
Am working on Vmware, Citrix Xen Server kind of visualization softwares these days.

there is something interesting about how windows 7 is being accepted.. everyone compare it with vista, and when you think about it, its way better than vista, and it looks better than xp … so love at first sight ..
Windows 7 is far superior to Windows Vista, both regarding speed and looks. Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been like; listening to the end users was a very wise decision from Microsoft.

I really wish I could understand what all the problems were with vista. I used vista from beta to retail (ultimate retail) and then 7 since beta (and now have retail, ultimate) and have had the blue screen of death 1 time in 3 years+. I had some minor software compatibility issues, but that was all, nothing I couldn’t live without.
I do agree that windows 7 is superior, but I don’t agree that Vista was a disaster.
