We usually start our weekends at the Forum Mall, here in Bangalore. This weekend, while we were in the Mall, She said,
“let’s go to the apple store”.
I was surprised, because apple store is one of the two restricted areas for me inside The Forum; reason ? : gadgets are dangerous for me. ( the other restricted place is Landmark, coz, I am addicted to books too ).
I asked her “what for ?” and she said …. ” I want to check my facebook” … and I was ..
” WHAT ?”
This happened 10 minutes after we left our home , where we have broadband Internet, and where we are supposed to be back again in another two hours of three. Why can’t she wait for few more hours before she can check facebook again ? The answer is, A facebook app, or a game called “Farm Ville”
I decided to see what this is all about, and I have to admit, I got myself addicted to this game now. So, if you have a facebook account, and going to check this out, take this as a warning. You may get addicted.
This is a simple flash based game, that you can install as an app on your facebook account. You get a small area or, farm which you can develop with plants, trees, sheep and goats etc. Slowly, you develop your farm and earn points, add your friends as neighbors, etc etc .. There is a stupid option where you can purchase points, ( yea, pay using your credit card .. no !! I am not kidding ) with which you can buy virtual trees and seeds … interesting uh ?
I usually ignore all app requests on facebook and I was ignoring this one also, so far. But, when I started using this, I found out that almost all of my friends are already in there, living in their virtual farm houses. With straberries, Apple trees, and orange trees. I got a chat message from a friend asking me to send him an orange tree as a gift ( yes, you can send people trees and more as gifts ).
What makes it sooo addictive ? I don’t have an answer. But, there is something that you will notice. Each plant or tree gets ready for harvesting in certain amount of time. So, if you have a plant that you are supposed to harvest in 2 hours, you should login to facebook and connect to this app on that time, and if you are late, your fruit will be gone as in the real world. ( now you know why she wanted to go to apple store and login to facebook from there !! ) So you are connected to this app all the time, you check back at certain intervals to make sure that everything is fine ….

I think its the simplicity of the game that makes it popular, and its realistic to an extent too. In my college i see people on their laptops harvesting crops during lectures lol

A friend of mine tried a game about which movie character he resembles the most ; for reasons unknown it came back with “Naina from Kal Ho Na Ho” with a cutesy pic of Preity Zinta !
As if that was not enough he was held down by two guys while the third made sure it was published for all to see !

Crazy… I’ve heard of it but never experienced the addiction. I am glad I found this blog through one of your comments on Blogussion.
The interesting thing about facebook is that in each place, it’s a new app that is the most popular. I was in Japan a month ago and there, Pet Society was the most common. Here, among my girl friends, Sorority Life is the most popular. And then there’s the vampire app, farmville and so on..
The whole idea of facebook is addicting. I have to check it every few minutes to change my status or reply to comments.. haha this is the true 21st century.

I ws introduced to farmville by a friend and i accepted to go there just coz i couldn’t say no. All my plants or trees or whatever is there must be dead by now and weeds would hve grown like hell…

I was once active in all social networking sites, it was some 3 months back I started playing mafia wars and recently farmville (both from the same group – Zynga). Last week, I took this decision to quit from all Soc. Nets…
I am on a complete de-addiction process – Smoking, Orkut, Facebook, Mafia Wars, Farmville …

I think you should check out the ‘Mafia Wars’ application too. I did play Farmville for a few days, but it got boring after that. But some people have the patience to stick to it until it becomes a bit more interesting..
Mafia Wars got me hooked from day 1 and it has been over 2 months since then and I am enjoying every bit of it

i am very annoyed with farmville i have been playin it for some time now my ponds an my halloween lanterns have gone missing could anyone give me any idea on how to get them back t wont let me buy anymore the site is playing up for me i would be really greatfull if any one could help me with this matter i know i must sound mad to complain but this game is jus so addictive i really enjoy it but this could ov jus put me off!!
