Is Your Mobile Service Provider Advertising On Your Caller Tune/Hello Tune ?

Caller Tune Hello Tune India

This happens very usually. I am calling a friend and he / she has a caller tune ( or hello tune ) but, for about 5 to 10 seconds, what I get to hear is their service provider advertising their Hello Tunes .

Most of the times, the person at the other end answers the call before I start hearing the song. So, are you paying for that advertisement ? Really ?

I haven’t collected enough information to confirm if this is only on any particular network. Do you guys know about this advertisement ? Is it on all circles / states ? ( I experience this in Karnataka circle )

Is this fair ?

Android 2.3 Gingerbread For Your Laptop

Android Ginger Bread on Laptop

Android Ginger Bread on Laptop

I have written about installing Android on Laptops in the past. So for those Android on PC fans, here is Android 2.3 Gingerbread installations instructions for your Laptop.

You’ll need a 64-bit build environment and the Java 1.6 to get the ball rolling, and you shouldn’t expect all your hardware to work. At the moment, only wireless and audio are working — but that’s certainly enough to let you play around with Gingerbread and enjoy the experience a little.

Head on over todeveloper cwhuang’s site [machine translated] for more details, as well as the Git repo link you’ll need to pull down his Gingerbread x86 code.

Looks like Docomo has reduced prices in Karnataka Circle after Airtel launched 3G. I am not sure when they dropped prices. The latest prices on their website looks lower than what it used to be when they launched 3G. I had bought a 3G SIM from Docomo when I bought the new Android phone. I was not so impressed. Waiting for some feedback on Airtel 3G speed and service.

And anyone heard of a company called Vodafone ? do they have plans of offering 3G sometime soon ?

My First Android Phone

LG Optimus One India

LG Optimus One India

After writing a lot about Android and Android devices, I finally bought an Android phone. I was waiting for an affordable model here in India. Finally found my love in LG Optimus One. It came with Android 2.2 and I am waiting for the next update to 2.3, Ginger Bread.

A fast moving gadget, and fastest ever in LG’s history.

Price was 13250 when bought ( a few days after it was announced here in India :)  I couldn’t wait more ) it might have come done by now .. may be ?

I am in love with the android experience .. may be because I am biased but this is awesome. There are a lot of ways for you to waste time, like say the Angry Bird game ? The Talking Tom app a funny cat that repeats everything you say in a funny tone and there are a lot more.

The performance is good for its price range and processor power. Camera works good in day light, may experience issues taking photos when light is less because there is no flash. The photo in this post was taken with this phone, from Bangalore. ( uploaded to my dropbox folder from phone ) LG is doing some good promotion here.

Apps I have installed

Advanced App Killer

Angry Birds

Bible

Barcode Scanner

Dropbox

Foursquare

Goggles

Google Reader

NYTimes Reader

Malayalam FM Radio

Skype
