Want to cover an event through Live Blogging ? Google Wave is all you need for Live blogging using WordPress (or any other blogging or CMS platform like Drupal and Joomla ). Read on, to know how this can be done.

The Solution in Simple Words

Install a WordPress Plugin that embeds Google Wave in to your Blogpost, and then publish your wave on your blog, and you are ready for the show ! Now all you need to do is updating the wave, which will automatically update your blog post, real time.

Now, Those Simple Steps

Find the right Google Wave Plugin for you. If you are using WordPress, there are three plugins, wp-wave-shortcode, and wavepressthis. But the best wordpress plugin for Wave is, Wavr. It provides one click integration of Wave to WordPress.

If you are using Drupal on your website, “Drupal Waves” plugin will help you embed waves to your webpages. Find the details about Drupal wave and 7 more useful google wave plugins here. If you are using Joomla, you can download the Joomla Wave Plugin from here.

After the plugin is installed and activated, all you need to do is embed a wave in your blog post, and start updating the wave, which will be updated on the blog as well, real time. People can read things while you are typing those words, you can share images, videos, etc, by simply adding them to wave. Your blog post or webpage with the wave will work like a charm, providing live streaming of the session you are covering !!

What do you think ?

Tweetbacks

Ready for some action ? Okay, we are going to steal some comments for your blog posts from twitter. Don’t worry, they took our comments first, now we are stealing them back, so you will not be punished ( if you get caught, I don’t know you, ok ? )

Check out some blogs, with loads of twitter love. They get hundreds of RTs about theirs posts, and we envy their Tweetme counts. But most of these blog posts with 100+ tweets about them, do not get many comments. People tweet about them but ignore the comment form. But, they still love your those blog posts.

Tweetbacks

Some can live with that, but we can not. We love comments, and we feel so glad to see number of comments in our blog posts going up. So, twitter took our comments away, sad… but now, we can steal them back !

What is a Tweetbacks ?

Tweetback is similar to trackbacks on your blog comments. In a trackback, when someone links to your blog, wordpress identifies it as a comment, and adds to the list among other “normal” comments. We are doing the same thing, but instead of links, we look for tweets about our posts.

note : This is done using a plugin. So, if you are using wordpress.com hosted blog, sorry, you can not do this. But, WordPress.com may add this feature later, who knows !

This is very simple because we have two plugins to do our job. Yes, we are outsourcing “stealing” job. Nice idea right ? ( tell them, if they get caught, you don’t know them either )

Plugin 1. Tweetback

The name explains it all. This plugin will check for tweets about your post ever 15 minutes. With this plugin, you can

Showing what tweeters are saying about the post

Replies to those tweets from others

Showing who is tweeting the post

Showing the tweeters’ avatars

That’s pretty Cool. Now, to install this plugin, go to your WordPress dashboard plugin installation page and search “tweetback”. Or, you can download the plugin from this page.

Plugin 2. Tweetbacks

It does pretty much the same. You can display tweets about blog posts as comments on your blog. Install, activate, and you are ready to go !

People are talking about your posts, and not only in the comments to your post. A lot of that conversation is happening on Twitter, and now, you can take that conversation right back to your blog! This plugin imports those tweets about your posts as comments. You can display them in between the other comments on your blog, or display them separately.

To install, same method as above, from dashboard, or download the plugin from here

So, are you ready ?

This is not a “happy” post. I am just explaining how I feel about a certain nature of some ( read many ) twitizens, they follow you just because you followed them, or they follow you, to make you follow them.

Should I follow you just because you followed me ? Is it the only way to say thanks to my new follower ? Of course not, an RT, or a Direct message will do. But still, people do follow back. Are you expecting someone to follow you back, just because you followed them ?

Okay, let me make this clear. I will follow people only if their tweets are useful or good or nice etc. ie, if I am interested in what they tweet about. If you are following me, thank you, thank you very much, but don’t follow me just because I followed you, but only if my tweets are useful to you !

ain’t that fine people ?

I get to read more interesting articles, thanks to twitter. 90% of tweets that I see, includes a link. It could be an article that they liked, their own blog post, or a funny picture. Anything worth a retweet is shared among everyone, and we all read it. Other than comment forms on blogs, Twitter gave me another platform to communicate, share and socialise.

I Write More

Yes, twitter has inspired me to write more. I blog more because I read more. It is always like that with me. If I spend more time on books and newspapers, I can blog more, and with twitter, I get another reading source, interesting articles from all over the web, instantly. Adding to that, I have written few blog posts about twitter too. Now, twitter is truly inspiring right ? There are others who agree with this.

Food For Thought

Twitter sometimes, gives some food for thoughts too. Reema shares interesting quotes, Chirag always has some inspiring articles from the web, and Philip is good at giving you news that you can’t stop thinking about. There are many others who share thought provoking articles through twittter.

Twitter fan ? Getting inspired or made lazy by twitter ? What is your experience ?

Thank You ! Tweople ! Twitizens ! Tweeps !!

I have no idea why I am spending this much time on twitter. When I have nothing else to do, I keep reloading my twitter page for new tweets ( I haven’t installed any twitter tool yet .. may be I will, soon .. ). And even when I have something important to do, I keep coming back to twitter, for another reload.

I created twitter account a few months back and left it there and Twitter was not popular like this. Even when I saw twitter’s popularity growing, I didn’t feel like using it because I had nothing to do with twitter, or I have no idea what the use was, for me.

Initially, like many others I was also thinking this, why should I tell the world “What I am doing” using a website, and 140 characters ? Then twitter changed in to something more … Obama started twittering .. CNN , Facebook, Google … and then Google started worrying about twitter launching search and then ads … people started dreaming about their tweets being published in newspapers like their blog entries do.

Things have changed. I am active on twitter now. Oh wait .. what does that mean ? being active on twitter ? Well, it means less reading time, and more inspiration and information. I find new blogs and bloggers using twitter. I browse through profiles, and read their bio, and then click on their web link … that’s something for killing time.. the reading time.

If you are a designer, this is the good time to start designing free twitter backgrounds and be popular. Do you want to know what the world is thinking/talking about/browsing ? visit http://www.pepsicozeitgeist.com/ and yes, that’s powered by twitter.

In kerala, some of my friends, twitter users met, formed their community and started a new website for them to share their twitterd life.

Why are you using twitter ?
Is it useful for you ?
What is your twitter ID ?
Do you think twitter will be a competition for Google ?
