How to Make Linux for Popular : The next step.

I am  only  a Linux user, not an expert. I feel good to tell you that I am linux user. Because, when I look around, I see only linux geeks, or linux experts and very very less linux users.

Understanding Linux as a user

The open source theory is not my attraction. I use Linux because it is a good operating system and that’s the only reason. When I write about Linux, I am not  preaching freedom and open source or any of those theories…  but I am trying to tell you about a good operating system that I use.

My job introduced Linux to me as an operating system  that does almost everything that windows can do, and lot of things that Windows can not do. I used linux because I had to, and I did not leave Linux because I started loving it.

This will not happen very often. We do not have platforms where general public get introduced to Linux. Linux and most of the things related to it are shared within the Geek Communities around the Internet.

The next step, reach the common man

What Linux should do now, as early as possible, is to introduce Linux to the common man. This should happen online and offline. There is a great community of Linux users. They can easily do this, using their online and offline contacts.

A To Do List for Google Chrome Team

Or, a collection of issues reported abour Google Chrome, plus features that we need in the next release.

1. We need the option for adding new themes and plugins. Plugins and themes can get you more guys addicted to Chrome, more developers will be attracted and there will be more activity related to the browser.

2. We may accidently click close, and loose all tabs that we had open. Chrome is not asking for a confirmation before it closes multiple tabs, we really want it to ask us before closing everything together.

3. Editing css style sheets with Google Chrome is not possible.

4. No option to go to an offline mode.

5. Autofil not working as expected.

If you find an issues that needs a fix, or feature that you expect in the next update/release, post it here. A big thanks to all those who commented / emailed with their input. ( Philip , Chirag Chamoli ,  Rekha , and xylene )

Speed up !!

Speed up !! What’s that ?

Well, I asked the same question when I saw this “speed up” on the top right hand side of my admin page for WordPress 2.6 Beta 1.

Without knowing what it is, I clicked on the link and I got a pop up window

WordPress 2.6 and Google Gears helps speed things up while blogging

Okay, I see Google Gears. That gives some clue about this “speed up”. If you do not know what Google Gears is,

Google Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline. Gears provides three key features: Read more here

Luckily, I had Google Gears enabled on my Laptop, so the process was easy. I clicked and  enabled Google Gears for WordPress. What will happen to WordPress If I enable it ? Need to check that out !!. Stay tuned for that information.

Is google always right ?

http://blogoscoped.com/files/google-cartoon-02.gifI just received an email forward, starting with following lines

“”Om Jai Google Hare !!
Swami Jai Google hare
Programmers ke sankat, Developers ke Sankat,
Click main door kare!!
Om Jai Google Hare !!”"

This is making me write something more about Google.

Most of the times, when we are in need of instant information, its google that helps us. Before I give up on any issue, that I come across while at work, I try google once, to see if that helps.

That does not mean that whatever you find there, is correct.

“Google is neither affiliated with the authors of this page nor responsible for its content.” thats what Google says, if you have noticed it. That means, we are responsible for what we find on google. If there is a high ranked website, which says Indian Independence Day is August 16th, there are chances, for a considerable amount of people to believe that it truly is on 16th.

How will you make sure that what you found on a google search, is correct ? What all things or steps that you personally take, or consider while you search for something on any search engine?

I leave this for an open discussion, to figure out different ways to do this, and present it in a good format for all of you out there !!
