Google’s HTML5 plans for Gmail include 1 second-to-Inbox startup

Gmail Soap

Gmail will be the most used website, or webapp  and we always wait patiently wait for it to load, we understand the pain it takes to load all our emails chats and attachments right ?

You said Yes ?

Really ?

I thought so, gmail is loading slower these days with all the new features and extensions added to it and if you have offline gmail enabled, it will take much longer for gmail to load. Well, Google also knows this patience test that we go through every time we open gmail and they are working on a 1 second to inbox startup solution.

Google is planning to do this with the latest HTML5 technology which is gaining popularity these days. ( Apple, iPhone, Flash is evil – got the puzzle ? )

Thanks to HTML5, we will soon have advanced features on more webapps, and gmail will be on of the best platforms for HTML5 to show its strength.

Good move, Google !

Next Company For Google to Acquire

Last week I wrote about an awesome Google Chrome extension  to  ”Replace Ads in Gmail with Social Media Profile of the Sender” on Chromestory.com. I added a small bit on the end of that blog post, saying I am sure that Google will buy this company.

UK-based start up called Rapportive has created an awesome Extension for Both Firefox and Google Chrome, which replaces the advertisement space in Gmail inbox with social media profile of the user whom you are interacting with, on that email.

Do you think Google Will Buy This Company ?

1. This is an awesome service which will see thousands of followers in coming days.

2. Even though ads inside gmail inbox is not Google’s revenue system, Google will not be happy about users removing ads with the help of a simple extension. They will buy this company, and include this service in gmail without hurting their income source.

What do you think ?

Google Wave Addon for Firefox

Wave Addon for Firefox

Wave Addon for Firefox

Hi people  ! I am back after a small break. I was away from blogging and social networking for a couple of weeks and have more than 1000 unread items in google reader. So, it will take some time for me to reach your blogs and read your latest posts.  Now, the real deal of the post.

Google Wave Notifier extension for firefox works like the gmail notifier plugin. Enter  your wave login details, and  you will be notified whenever there is a new Wave in your inbox.  Simple !

Known Issues:

“Cookies Blocked” issue: If third-party cookies are blocked for all sites, an exception will have to be added for wave.google.com.

This is done by going to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Firefox will: Use custom settings for history -> Exceptions -> wave.google.com -> Allow.

This extension will work only with wave.google.com accounts, and not with sandbox accounts. It has been tested using Windows XP, Vista, 7, Ubuntu, and OS X.

The most interesting part about this plugin is that, support is given through a wave !!! So, here is someone who found another use for Google Wave.  Product Support, or say, Customer Service ?

Malayalam Fonts and Google Chrome

UPDATE : FIXED Manoramaonline.com issue. For manoramaonline.com on Google Chrome, you can install THIS FONT After you install this font, refresh the browser and it should work.

Are you using Google Chrome ? If your answer is YES ….. you must visit Google Chrome Tips where we answer all your Google Chrome related questions, and you get news and updates in your inbox, for FREE !!

TIP: Using Twitter and Google Chrome ? Here is Twitter Plugin for Chrome

When I tried Google Chrome browser for Malayalam websites, it worked fine. But, then I saw couple of comments about Malayalam font issues on Chrome.

Malayalam UTF fonts were working fine on Chrome, the issue was with manoramaonline.com. To be frank, I am clueless here. Because, I never bothered about how manoramaonline.com’s malayalam page looked like on firefox or IE, and it never worked for me. I was using mathrubhumi.com for news and blogspot, wordpress blogs using Malayalam utf fonts, and I never had any issues. Things were almost the same here with Chrome too.

So, I have two questions.

1. Do you have any issues with Google Chrome Malayalam fonts ? Is it manoramaonline.com only or, just anything written in Malayalam ?

2. Do you know how to fix this issue ?

If you have answer for any of these questions, or another question related to this, drop me a comment here or email me hello at offlineblog.net

As far as I know, if you were able to browse Malayalam websites using firefox, you should not have any problem with Chrome also.

The AOL Mail Experience : Part 1

“There is a little bit of me in AOL mail”. Well, thats true. They have ads too !! like I have on this blog. Is it really bad to have ads ? hmm I would say, No, but when I open my inbox, I am expecting my inbox first and not just ads.

First Impression ?

Yes, opening your mail will not take you directly to your inbox. You see a copy of aol.in’s home page along with some ads. So my first impression was not that good. But it could’een better if they avoided that right – left scroll ( I really hate when I have to scroll left – right on a web page ) Continue reading →

Old Post : Using Your Webcam to take picture for profile photo

gmail webcamEven when we use gmail and gtalk for most of our chat and email, we often go back to Yahoo, for video and Webcam. What if you have webcam also, on your gtalk or gmail ? Well, don’t get excited, the feature is yet to be announced. But, I think, its on its way. Reason ? Google announced recently, that Google Talk gadget users will now be able to take a picture directly from the webcam to use as their profile picture gtalk.

” Currently, this feature only works in the Google Talk gadget, but will set your picture across the Google Talk network, including in Gmail.”

Yahoo never allowed us to use webcam from a linux machine, will google enable that feature ? Thats my concern now.

How To

From the Google Talk gadget, click on your Google Talk picture, and select the “Take Photo” option. You’ll see the image from your webcam appear, and you’ll be able to take and retake pix to your heart’s content. When you get that perfect shot, just click “Save” to set it as your picture.

Currently, this feature only works in the Google Talk gadget, but will set your picture across the Google Talk network, including in Gmail.
