It’s been a while since I wrote something here. I did blog a couple of entries last month, but nothing of real writing happened here for a quite long time. If I have to apologize to someone, it’s just me, because, I was hurting myself by not writing anything here.

Everything started from this blog ( even though it changed the domain name couple of times, and even the blog name ). I got the energy and the passion to do other blogs, like the one I am concentrating on now, from this very old personal blog of mine. Slowly, it lost the personal touch, and ended up being something, which I don’t have a name to call.

I don’t have a fix for it yet, I am not going to make any big promises to myself, or you. I am trying again, to give this blog a personal touch, and bring it back to life. I may not be able to write frequently, most of my posts may become nothing but ramblings, but still, its good to be here, in good company.

I’ve to thank “Wake Up Sid” here. I saw this movie 7th time today. I am not getting bored with this movie at all. For some reason, I am getting more and more attracted to it, and it always gives me a positive energy and inspiration to do something fresh and cool, this crude rambling being one of them !

First of, I am not  a writer to call this a “writers block”, so let us call this “blogger’s block”, ok ?

It’s been a while since I updated my blogs. I keep the “Add New Post” page open for a long time waiting for some thought to come in to my mind ( or to my fingers, if not mind ), but I sit there, and nothing happens. I read those inspiring blogs again and again …. things that can usually make me write something .. ( there are a few blogs where I spend hours, or visit 25 times a day, I will tell you later ) but no … nothing happens ..  Is this what you call Bloggers’ Block ?

You guys know that I am crazy about blog design and themes etc, but I am not a designer.

I realize, that blog designing is not just about colors and header images but lot of other things, including information architecture and user experience.

I do follow a lot of blogs by wordpress designers. I enjoy reading about their experiences and experiments ; I get to learn a bit about blog layouts, blog architecture and blog designing ( at least I know these terms.right? )

I get enough inspiration from them, especially when I read something like this.

But 2 years ago I didn’t own my domain name, had never touched a piece of WordPress code and knew nothing about blog design. In other words, everything I’ve done with WordPress and blog design in the past year has been self taught, using trial and error.”

So, it’s possible to learn wordpress designing and coding if you want to. But I was too lazy to try it out myself. Still, after following their blogs for few months, and trying different themes almost on a daily basis, I have learned enough to judge a wordpress theme, even though I can not design a theme on my own.

Yes, here is a new feature on Google docs. Add Youtube Videos to your presentations. You can insert one or more YouTube videos onto your slides and play the videos while you’re presenting.

Its been a long time since I have done a presentation. Anyway, I will be doing my next presentation on Google docs. Well, if I ever get chance to do one. If any of you guys are using Google Docs presentation, and would like to comment on how useful this feature is, you are most welcome to drop a comment here.

Another feature they added recently, is Speaker notes. If you do now know what speaker notes are, on a presentation, this is what it is. “Seasoned presenters keep their slides simple and use slides to help illustrate their points, not to present all of their information. They jot down their talking points, examples, and supporting evidence in speaker notes”

So, if you were looking for this option in Google Docs, its there now, try it out !!

Yahoo! is getting ready for something like Google Adsense. Well, its not a “new news”, I know. However, If you do not know about it yet, check out publisher.yahoo.com. I am just wondering when they are actually launching it. Just curious. I tried to check that out but, I got a response saying that Its still under Beta version and I think it’s been in that stage for long time now.

Question for you : Do you think, if Yahoo! launches their program soon, do you think its going to gain popularity ?

I have one reason to say it may. It has paypal as a payment option, which will attract non-us publishers. Google’s checks takes ages to arrive and get cleared. But, with paypal, things get faster. However, Google can add paypal anytime, and Yahoo! may loose that advantage too. Or Google might look at acquring paypal too lol !!

Yahoo! should concentrate on bringing new publishers in. I think they can try something like what they did with the WordPress plugin. They can concentrate on wordpess ( self hosted ) publishers and bring some easy tool. Or they can offer good referral rewards.

I was wondering what will Google‘s response be, when it comes to the Yahoo! Microsoft deal. I came across this post which has some interesting points and it gives a clear idea about what Google’s concerns are, about this deal.

Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC? While the Internet rewards competitive innovation, Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies — and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets.

Yes, that is a serious concern. Microsoft is always for copyrights, making the PC costly, making the computing itself costly.. and it kept it away from masses for a long time. Now, do you see low cost laptops entering market with Linux OS on it ? don’t you think it could have been much earlier, if Microsoft’s approach was different ?

Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft — despite its legacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses — to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet? In addition, Microsoft plus Yahoo! equals an overwhelming share of instant messaging and web email accounts. And between them, the two companies operate the two most heavily trafficked portals on the Internet. Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email, IM, and web-based services?
