Oh yea, I am not joking ! Here is a iPhone running windows xp on it. Now, here is the secret, as explained in the end of the video, he is running XP on a mac as a virtual machine and sharing the screen on a second display using a program, and the second display is his iPhone !
Hi people ! I am back after a small break. I was away from blogging and social networking for a couple of weeks and have more than 1000 unread items in google reader. So, it will take some time for me to reach your blogs and read your latest posts. Now, the real deal of the post.
Google Wave Notifier extension for firefox works like the gmail notifier plugin. Enter your wave login details, and you will be notified whenever there is a new Wave in your inbox. Simple !
Known Issues:
“Cookies Blocked” issue: If third-party cookies are blocked for all sites, an exception will have to be added for wave.google.com.
This is done by going to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Firefox will: Use custom settings for history -> Exceptions -> wave.google.com -> Allow.
This extension will work only with wave.google.com accounts, and not with sandbox accounts. It has been tested using Windows XP, Vista, 7, Ubuntu, and OS X.
The most interesting part about this plugin is that, support is given through a wave !!! So, here is someone who found another use for Google Wave. Product Support, or say, Customer Service ?
Finally, I downloaded a copy of windows 7 release candidate, and I am using it right now. Not on my laptop. My laptop is messed up right now, it won’t install any OS at all ( don’t have an windows XP disc with me, but tried fedora, ubuntu and windows 7, all errors … and I am screwed .. time to call acer support guys .. ). So I had to install windows 7 on another laptop.
It was real tough downloading a 2GB file ( 64 bit version is 3GB btw ) but airtel’s Speed on Demand helped me out there. So yea, if you ever need help in downloading big files, faster than your normal connection speed, airtel speed on demand is a real good and easy to use service, try it out … and yea, you must pay for this extra speed though.
Windows 7 looks almost like vista, but the start up and the overall design looks good. Try searching google images, for some screenshots. Will be fun, I promise. And yea it has vista only in its looks, this thing works way better than vista. I was up and running in less than an hour, and things worked pretty much out of the box, on acer laptop with 2gb ram and intel processor and card.
The good thing is I can use this evaluation copy till may 2010, and after that I will get pop ups asking me to upgrade, and I think this will start shutting down itself every two hours, if I continue to use without upgrading, but till then, I am good.
I installed google chrome, firefox, google talk, and filezilla ( for ftp uploads and downloads ) without any errors. I have a small red icon on my task bar, something called the “action center” asking me to find an anti-virus software online. So, I should look at some anti virus options also. What would you suggest ?
I will post more on my windows 7 experience soon, stay tuned ! and yea, one thing is sure, MS is back on track with this Windows 7 … hope geek gods forgive them for their Vista crimes …
Android is being picked up by Laptop and Netbook manufacturing companies. We saw Dell testing Android on their netbooks, and Acer announcing an Android based netbook being developed. So, an important question that we need to find answer for is, about the future of prices for these android based Netbooks and Laptops.
What makes Netbooks popular ? Yes, small, light, compact etc .. agreed, but price is also a very important factor for their growing popularity. When the world started noticing netbooks coming, most of the geeks expected Linux making it big on Netbooks market. Well, it did, to a large amount, and then Microsoft gained their space too, with their Windows XP running most of the netbooks. So, right now, most of androids come with windows XP, and that adds a certain amount to their cost.
Netbooks can go further, if we can bring prices down, and the best way to do this, is to get rid of the additional cost of an Operating System. Now, not everyone will accept Linux on Netbooks, just because it is not windows, or it does not look like Windows. What’s the solution ?
My answer to this question, is Android. As mentioned on another blog post here about Android, google can be a motivation for people to try another OS, it will be a “feel good factor” for this open source OS, that it is from Google, the great. With a free OS that’s popular, and easy to use, prices will come down, and more people can afford a Netbook, and I think that will be really good.
Windows XP should be the most common operating system used in India… right ? .. but we never pay for it .. great !!
When I went to the laptop store of “X” brand, they said they will get pirated XP installed on it if I buy from there. hmm pretty good offer .. So that’s how things are. Most of us use pirated operating systems. We laugh at people if they say they paid for the operating system. But, we seldom opt for free softwares or operating systems. Paying for the OS while purchasing a laptop makes us feel bad .. ( I agree, most them offer windows vista with it, and its a pain …. )
