Try Yahoo! Buzz If you are bored with digg.com

Ruhi on Yahoo! BuzzUpdate : Click On the Image and see whos there !!

“Yahoo! has launched Yahoo Buzz”. At first, this news did not impress me. The website also looked almost same as any other Yahoo! service. After sometime, I was able to figure out what this Buzz is all about. It sounds almost similar to digg.com. Publishers submit content to the site, users vote for it.

Did you like it ? Well, yes !! I do not know why, but I liked it and I am spending little more time on it. Why … if you ask that question again, I have no other choice but to think and think and give you some … [Read more →]

Yahoo! Live - Go Live with your webcam..

……but what for ?

I am writing this post with a big question in my mind. It started as soon as I found this new on my RSS feed reader.

On Yahoo! Live, you can use your webcam to broadcast your own live video channel. Or just tune in to other people’s channels. The video and audio are in real time, and as you watch someone’s channel or br

oadcast your own, you can interact chat-room style with other viewers. On Yahoo! Live there are limitless channels and anyone can be a star

Is it really useful ? In someway or the other ? I am yet to find an answer. I don’t think Yahoo! will develop something like this putting a lot of energey effort and money without something in mind. I am unsure of what the real use of this feature is, and I am still trying to figure out if there is any chance for this to be popular ( unless it turns dirty .. you know what I mean, there are lots of chances to get this misused. ) [Read more →]

Yahoo!’s Adsense

Yahoo! is getting ready for something like Google Adsense. Well, its not a “new news”, I know. However, If you do not know about it yet, check out publisher.yahoo.com. I am just wondering when they are actually launching it. Just curious. I tried to check that out but, I got a response saying that Its still under Beta version and I think it’s been in that stage for long time now.

Question for you : Do you think, if Yahoo! launches their program soon, do you think its going to gain popularity ?

I have one reason to say it may. It has paypal as a payment option, which will attract non-us publishers. Google’s checks takes ages to arrive and get cleared. But, with paypal, things get faster. However, Google can add paypal anytime, and Yahoo! may loose that advantage too. Or Google might look at acquring paypal too lol !!

Yahoo! should concentrate on bringing new publishers in. I think they can try something like what they did with the Wordpress plugin. They can concentrate on wordpess ( self hosted ) publishers and bring some easy tool. Or they can offer good referral rewards.

Google’s View of Micorsoft’s Bid for Yahoo!

I was wondering what will Google’s response be, when it comes to the Yahoo! Microsoft deal. I came across this post which has some interesting points and it gives a clear idea about what Google’s concerns are, about this deal.

Could Microsoft now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC? While the Internet rewards competitive innovation, Microsoft has frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies — and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets.

Yes, that is a serious concern. Microsoft is always for copyrights, making the PC costly, making the computing itself costly.. and it kept it away from masses for a long time. Now, do you see low cost laptops entering market with Linux OS on it ? don’t you think it could have been much earlier, if Microsoft’s approach was different ?

Another question

Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft — despite its legacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses — to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet? In addition, Microsoft plus Yahoo! equals an overwhelming share of instant messaging and web email accounts. And between them, the two companies operate the two most heavily trafficked portals on the Internet. Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email, IM, and web-based services? Policymakers around the world need to ask these questions — and consumers deserve satisfying answers. [Read more →]

The Yahoo! Microsoft deal !!

Yahooo! + Microsoft and Google on the other side !! well, that’s going to be an interesting equation then, if Microsoft wins the Yahoo! deal.

If the deal works out, do you think its going to give a tough competition for Google ?
Do you think Microsft will acquire Yahoo! soon ?

I don’t think its going to give tough competition for Google. Why ? Yahoo! was always behind Google on this online search engine market and other goodies… Microsoft has less experience in this field, and MSN, is kind of failure too. So, bringing them together, is not going to affect Google much.Yahoo!

Now, the question is, will Yahoo! accept this offer ? Do you think so ? personally, I would say “Yes”. Yahoo! really want to do something to put themselves back on track. They need more confidence, money, power.. which Microsoft can provide them. So, whats Yahoo!’s response so far ?

“From the Yahoo! Yodel Corporate Blog:

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Microsoft made an unsolicited proposal to acquire Yahoo! yesterday evening. Since then, we’ve gotten quite a number of questions about what this means for Yahoo!. [Read more →]

“You’ll find this really weird. Till a couple of hours back, I was all pro-Yahoo. But now, I’m all pro- Gmail. 6+ GB is anyway a lot of space, if you separate all your email accounts, right? And it’s only increasing every single day. There are also other forwarding options available that let you forward your email from one gmail account to another…anyway you must be knowing all this. I’ve never used all these features, until today. :) Dinsan will be very happy to know that finally I’ve converted to Gmail full time. Haha.”

So, welcome Ruhi………………….

The AOL Mail Experience : Part 1

“There is a little bit of me in AOL mail”. Well, thats true. They have ads too !! like I have on this blog. Is it really bad to have ads ? hmm I would say, No, but when I open my inbox, I am expecting my inbox first and not just ads.

First Impression ?

Yes, opening your mail will not take you directly to your inbox. You see a copy of aol.in’s home page along with some ads. So my first impression was not that good. But it could’een better if they avoided that right - left scroll ( I really hate when I have to scroll left - right on a web page ) [Read more →]
